We buy small quantities of logs to supply our sawmill. Here are some things we ask when buying logs. (Call 541-589-2103 to see if we are currently buying or to ask about prices.)
Where are they from? (Yard, forest, small grove etc.)
What species are they?
How long have they been cut?
Were they dead before felling?
Do you have some pictures you can share with us?
Where are they located?
If already cut, what lengths are they?
Will they be delivered or will we need to freight them to the sawmill?
What we Like:
Log lengths of 8’ 10’ 12’ 14’ 16’ 18’ 20’ with a minimum trim of 6”.
Logs that roll. In other words strait round logs.
Logs with a top size greater than 12”.
Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Western Hemlock, Spruce, Juniper Tamarack.
What we like a lot less: (but still may accept)
Random log lengths that we have to trim.
Logs that don’t roll. Crooked, sweepy, branches not trimmed close, etc.
Logs that have metal in them, on them, or around them.
